Luxury kitchen and bath brand Kallista has unveiled two new bath products designed by noted New York-based multidisciplinary design and architecture firm Workshop/APD.

The new collection, the Argile (pronounced ar-geel), which means clay in French, includes two products: a freestanding bathtub and a complementing decorative vessel.

Kallista says the collection speaks “to the overall organic aesthetic of the minimalist designs – from the forms’ cocooning half-moon shape to the textural raised pattern that cascades over the exteriors in decorative relief,” the company says. “With its modern sensibility and engaging visual contrast, the tub and vessel offer artful, uncommon designs not typically available within today’s mainstream marketplace.”

The company says the balanced simplicity of the tub and the vessel sink emphasize the strength of line each present and the unique surface detail that gives each certain level of sophistication.

No surprise that the Argile collection presents a balanced sophistication. It’s the type of discipline that Workshop/APD brings to its houses, hospitality, and commercial projects as well as its product designs for such companies as SA Baxter, Aster Cucine, and others.

“We wanted to create a modern basin and tub that weren’t cold, that felt handmade and handcrafted,” says Matt Berman, founding principal, Workshop. “There is nothing more beautiful than a design that reveals the hand of its maker. These pieces express that sentiment perfectly with a textural gradient effect that goes from smooth, polished edges to a carved surface inspired by wood cuts and carved or tooled clay.”

Crafted from a blend of fine mineral powder and resin, the 72-inch wide Argile tub offers a deep well for a relaxing soak and features an integrated drain and overflow. The tub’s slanted sides are ergonomically designed to comfortably support bathers, and the cast mineral and resin composition maintains the water at an optimum temperature for extended periods, the company says. Its integrated drain includes a round toe-tap with material-matched cover.

The vessel sink in the collection is made from cast stone. Offering a rounded shape and a 4-inch depth, the sink has a basin that naturally discourages splash-ups, the company says. The basin’s interior is fitted with a center drain for quick water release.

Argile product come in Kallista Honed White, a new matte finish that offers the soft, textural appeal of hand-honed stone, the company explains.
