Based on walkability, population density, income, cost-burdened rates, and crime rates, 10 U.S. cities were determined to be a cut above the rest as the most livable in the nation.

Arlington, Va. was named as the most livable of all in SmartAsset's ranking, scoring in the top 20 in every metric, and in the top 10 by four of the seven measures. Regionally, the Southwest did the best, with several cities making the list. Arizona alone had three of the top 10, with Gilbert ranked third, Chandler ranked eighth, and Phoenix ranked tenth. Texas was the only other state with more than one city on the list; Plano was second-best, and Irving tied for sixth place.
