LP Building Products announces that more builders across America are adopting the CarraraFinishes™ Built on LP® SmartSide® System. The CarraraFinishes Built on LP SmartSide System consists of a finish with the authentic look of stucco applied directly to premium LP SmartSide panel siding, an engineered wood substrate.

LP has expanded the number of builders – including partnering with some of America’s largest builders – who use this in-demand exterior finishing system.

Coverage with this system is over a swath of geography that extends nearly uninterrupted from the Southeastern to Southwestern United States, from Florida to New Mexico. Texas has been a beachhead for the system’s success. LP is also strengthening the system’s position in the Midwest, expanding outward from its bulwark in Illinois.

The CarraraFinishes Built on LP SmartSide System improves on what traditional stucco offers because it has AcraCream, a non-cementitious coating, SmartGuard® and resin encapsulation of LP SmartSide.

“The technologies and innovation with this system mean you can get the unique beauty of stucco without the usual sacrifices,” said Ben Skoog, LP SmartSide business marketing manager. “The finish’s beauty stands the test of time on curb appeal. This system is faster to install than three-coat stucco or exterior insulation and finishing system (EIFS) products, so it comparatively reduces installation time and cost. The system is also exceptionally effective at blocking water and resisting cracks in part because the elasticity of the finish during temperature changes is superior to traditional stucco.”

The Freedonia Group, a leading international business research company, has stated that “stucco siding is among the material types forecast to see the most rapid demand advances through 2014.”

Unlike alternative methods of applying stucco, cost-effective CarraraFinishes™ is installed like drywall and features an exclusive system technology that comes with all the finish material you need for fast and easy installation. The illustration above shows the product installed direct-to-stud. It can also be installed over exterior sheathing, direct-to-metal, and over exterior gypsum.

“LP SmartSide panel is a better foundation for CarraraFinishes than lath or cement because LP’s proprietary SmartGuard process enables it to resist moisture, termites and fungal decay. LP SmartSide panels and CarraraFinishes coatings are permeable, helping to prevent moisture from being trapped in the walls of a home,” said David Josey, LP product manager.

CarraraFinishes comes backed by an extremely competitive warranty – a five-year limited warranty that the finish will not chip, peel or flake. LP’s industry-leading five-year, 100-percent labor and replacement feature, along with a 50-year prorated limited warranty, applies to the panel substrate.

CarraraFinishes is applied directly to LP SmartSide panel over wood or metal studs. CarraraFinishes can be applied by trowel, knife or freestyle to achieve a variety of desired textures, such as fine- texture trowel; medium-texture trowel; sonora sand texture; skip trowel created with sonora sand; and a worm texture.

The system has approval by the APA® (the Engineered Wood Association) for single-wall construction direct-to-studs, and the finish is tested for adhesion and durability. The CarraraFinishes Built on LP SmartSide System is ideal for single-family homes, multifamily apartment buildings and commercial applications.
