New Mineral-Based Surfacing Debuts in North America

Feb. 9, 2017

The Siam Cement Group says its new Geoluxe is a breakthrough surfacing material that offers the aesthetics of natural marble without the shortcomings of the material.

“What makes this collection so unique is the exclusive patented technology developed by SCG called GeoMimicry, which is the process of creating something that draws on or mimics long-term geological processes such as the natural formation of lava,” the company says. “This innovative manufacturing process emulates the same natural metamorphic processes that produce marble, resulting in a breakthrough material called Pyrolithic Stone made from 100% mineral-based materials.”

Essentially, the minerals are turned into a liquid and then poured into a mold using something similar to a 3D printer so the veins can be seen throughout the product, the company explains. “It is then heated over 2,000 degrees, hence the reason why it’s virtually indestructible.”

The company says the process results in a product that is stain-, scratch-, heat-, and frost-resistant. Ideal for interior and exterior countertops and surfacing, it comes in seven styles.

Products comes in slabs measuring 3,200 by 1,400 mm and with a calibrated thickness of 20 mm and in tiles measuring 1,200 by 600 mm with a thickness of 10 mm.
