A new national poll shows that 53 percent of respondents are or may be interested in living in a home measuring less than 600 square feet.

The interest in tiny home-living is highest with millennials and Gen Xers, and lowest with baby boomers and seniors. The National Association of Home Builders' data show that millennials have the most interest with 63 percent of respondents, while Generation X respondents are ten percent less interested in living in a tiny home. Baby boomers and seniors are 45 and 29 percent interested in living in a tiny home, respectively.

Tiny homes, however, may be inviable in many areas. Many local zoning laws have minimum lot size requirements which ... would make them very expensive considering the cost of land. Many communities prohibit the construction of accessory structures, preventing existing home owners from adding them to their lots (although some communities have passed ordinances in recent months relaxing this restriction).
