A 600-square-foot bungalow built around 1900 in Seattle has become a “shrine to defiance,” as The New York Times puts it, after many years of resisting development.

The home’s resemblance to the house in Pixar’s animated feature “Up” has earned it the moniker “Up House.” Edith Macefield, the home's owner who passed away in 2008, was reported to have refused $1 million to vacate back in 2006.

Today, balloons are tied to the home’s wire fence by many visitors that come from all around the country. The home has become a symbol in Seattle, and The New York Times reports that a music festival, a documentary, a book of her life story, and a rye-based cocktail have been created in her honor.
