Manufacturer Introduces Pre-Charred Wood Shiplap and Boards

May 31, 2017

Universal Forest Products has introduced a new line of UFP-Edge Charred Wood shiplap and boards that make it easier for builders and designers to add drama to an interior.

“Burnt-wood products are growing quickly in popularity,” says Mark Deremo, director of category marketing, construction materials at Universal Forest Products. “Now, with UFP-Edge Charred Wood, contractors and dealers throughout the country can offer the beautiful look of Charred Wood to their customers.”

Charring wood, the company explains, is an ancient Japanese technique (also known as “shou-sugi-ban”) that preserves wood by carefully exposing it to a heat treatment. The company’s charred wood product has been burned to highlight its distinct wood-grain pattern and texture. Each piece of wood is then sealed with a satin clear-coat finish.

Shiplap and board profile options are ideal for a variety of interior design projects such as accent walls, ceilings, column and beam wraps, and wainscoting.

The products some in 1x6-inch shiplap, 1x4-inch trim, and 1x6-inch boards.
