Specialty hardware manufacturer Richelieu has introduced an electronic system that allows users to open a waste bin with the wave of a foot.
Designed to be used with waste management systems, such as Richelieu’s E-Cargo and Euro Cargo products, the Libero electronic and automatic door opener pushes out the waste bin without the need for homeowners to touch the cabinet handle.
“The device is activated by simply waving your foot in front of the sensor located in the kick board, which then triggers the release and opening of the cabinet or drawer,” the Canadian manufacturer and distributor says. “An integrated LED light indicates the sensor’s position.”
Libero is a flat, low voltage device can be installed to the bottom of a base cabinet once a cutout is made and then secured using screws. Ideal for frameless base cabinets and top-mounted waste bins and common bottom drawers, the unit offers a variety of extensions based on content weight and cabinet width.
As a safety feature and to avoid any unintended openings, Libero is equipped with a control that identifies obstacles thanks to a friction clutch system. The company says settings for the lighting sensor and ejection force can be adjusted using the available smart phone app.
