Schlage has updated its Smart Deadbolt to make it compatible with Android phones, in addition to iPhones, and has added a Wi-Fi adapter that allows any smartphone to control the lock remotely.

In a recent study, Schlage found that the top home security concern among single-family owners was second-guessing if the door was locked properly. The new Wi-Fi adapter (sold separately) and the Schlage Sense app eliminates this concern by allowing homeowners to lock or unlock from anywhere, check on the lock’s status, and receive notifications whenever the lock is used.

With the Schlage Sense app, users can also set up unique access codes for trusted family and friends, schedule times that guests can enter, view past activity, and check the battery life. This can all be done without an existing smart home platform, though the lock can be paired with Apple HomeKit.

“We wanted to provide a solution, like the Schlage Sense Wi-Fi Adapter, that would allow a homeowner to connect to their lock remotely without having a smart home platform,” says Chris Sutton, electronics business leader at Schlage.

The Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt is available in the traditional Camelot and contemporary Century styles as well as a variety of finishes including matte black, satin nickel, and aged bronze.
