Sherwin-Williams Adds Self-Cleaning Exterior Paint to Portfolio
Paint manufacturer Sherwin-Williams has expanded its Emerald line with a new self-cleaning product that helps repel dirt, minimizes maintenance time.
Rain Refresh is an exterior acrylic latex paint that is designed to be self-cleaning by shedding dirt upon contact with rain or water. Emerald Rain Refresh gives professionals and homeowners a simple and convenient solution to maintain clean exteriors for a freshly painted look all year long, the company says.

“Exterior painting can be a time-consuming task, and typically requires constant maintenance against outdoor elements,” says Rick Watson, director of product information and technical services at Sherwin- Williams. “Emerald Rain Refresh easily washes away dirt to make upkeep easier and achieve a cleaner look to increase curb appeal.”
Sherwin-Williams says it successfully leveraged the Self-Cleaning Technology developed in its Loxon self-cleaning acrylic coating and applied it to the latest addition to the Emerald product line. The company says the new paint has optimal application properties, simplifying the painting process.

- The paint has UV and weather-resistant qualities designed to reduce common exterior coating issues, such as blistering and peeling.
- Self-priming formulation helps save time during the painting process.
- It has a formula that is suitable for most exterior surfaces, including wood, masonry and concrete.
- Finally, Rain Refresh allows paint contractors to tint in VinylSafe colors, allowing customers to select from a limited number of darker colors formulated to resist warping or buckling.
The product is available in flat, satin, and gloss sheens at Sherwin-Williams stores nationwide. Customers can also place online orders for curbside pickup.
