Sherwin Williams has announced its 2017 Color of the Year—Poised Taupe—a hue the company says balances warm and cool tones to satisfy consumer cravings for beautiful neutrals.

Described as a “weathered, woodsy neutral bringing a sense of coziness and harmony,” Poised Taupe (SW 6039) combines earthen brown with conservative gray for a cool-yet-warm vibe.

“Poised Taupe celebrates everything people love about cool gray as a neutral and also brings in the warmth of brown, taking a color to an entirely new level,” says Sherwin-Williams' director of color marketing Sue Wadden.

According to the company, the hue works well alongside a range of color combinations, including pastels and jewel tones.

The selection of Poised Taupe followed the company’s research into trends around the world, where they found popular monochrome grays transitioning into more complex taupes and browns. “In a recent homeowner survey, nearly 40 percent of respondents agree that they would like to incorporate warmer neutrals, such as warm grays, taupes, or beiges, into their home décor,” the company says. “Additionally, more than two in five people identified taupe as a timeless neutral they would choose.”
