Six Appliance Brands Earn J.D. Power Recognition

Six appliance brands took top category spots in J.D. Power’s 2018 Kitchen and Laundry Appliance Satisfaction Studies, highlighting the strength of the appliance market.

“The fact that there are six different well-recognized brands stepping into the spotlight shows how competitive the appliance market has become and how a manufacturer can be successful when focusing on the right set of products,” says Christina Cooley, director of home improvement and technology practice at J.D. Power.

The results are particularly interesting considering the growth of the market for major household appliances, which is expected to reach $23.5 billion in 2018 and $27.0 billion by 2022., according to the Home Improvement Research Institute (HIRI).

The six brands that topped one or more appliance categories included LG, Bosch, Kenmore, Kenmore Elite, Maytag, and Samsung. LG topped a total of four categories in 2018, including side-by-side refrigerators, top-mount freezer refrigerators, freestanding ranges, top-load washers, compared to seven category winnings in 2017. Bosch remained steady from a year ago with three awards, including cooktops, wall ovens, and over-the-range microwaves. The remaining four brands topped one category apiece.

The two studies focused on customer satisfaction across 11 appliance segments, looking at product attributes such as reliability, ease of use, features, warranty, appearance, and price.
