According to Protool Reviews’ “2024 U.S. Trade Report,” the need for skilled workers is growing, with some roles seeing higher demand than others. The highest demand right now is for maintenance and repair workers, which collectively have 55,579 available job openings. Following closely behind, construction laborers and HVAC installers are also in need of workers, with 41,570 and 32,764 respective job openings.
The report also looked at which skilled jobs have the highest long-term career prospects and found that roles like floor layers, roofers, and construction laborers/wind turbine technicians offer significant pay progression, with wage increases of $170,000, $125,000, and $105,000, respectively.
Floor layers are responsible for installing and repairing a range of flooring materials. According to current job vacancy data, experience as a floor layer could take your salary from $30,000 to $200,000. This is the most significant pay progression of any trade on our list.
