Many builders choose ceramic and stone tiles for the showers and bathtub surrounds in their homes because they are durable, easy to maintain, and hygienic – all features their home buyers covet. For these reasons, tiles are the ideal surface covering for wet areas. These coverings are not inherently waterproof, however, and must be installed in conjunction with a waterproofing system that effectively manages moisture to protect moisture-sensitive building materials and control mold growth.
