More than 10 million households had kitchen remodeling or replacement work done in 2015.

Through a survey from the NKBA, Realtor.com found what kitchen upgrades are most popular with homeowners. For those who went with a full kitchen renovation, 80 percent chose new appliances, particularly refrigerators, range ovens, and dishwashers.

Granite countertops are more popular than laminate and marble, and most homeowners still like the look of wood flooring. Laminate flooring and ceramic and stone tiles, which can resemble wood, were most popular, ahead of actual wood. Many owners prefer stainless steel sinks over enameled cast iron sinks.

The homeowners who did take on kitchen remodeling projects didn’t necessarily spend big bucks on it.

The bulk of the kitchen work, 41%, were replacement projects costing less than $1,500, according to the report. And 22% had minor remodeling done at a cost ranging from $1,500 to $5,000.
