From the outside, the 3,810-square-foot Cat Hill Barn in Sheffield, England, still reflects its 16th-century origins. Maintaining the overall barn-like aesthetic was key to gaining approvals for converting the building into a residential space.
Inside, however, is a flowing floor plan that exquisitely combines the barn’s scale, wood trusses, and stone fireplace with the modern edge of glass, metal, and stainless steel.
Helping to maintain that balance between rustic authenticity and residential contemporary is Venture Plank Fendi smoked oak engineered wood flooring from Havwoods International. The flooring’s gray hue provides a touch of warmth for the stairwell landing, second-floor catwalk, bathroom, and other areas, while maintaining a clean, trendy appearance.

“The client was exceptionally happy with the durable and tasteful floor.” — Allan Singh, general manager, Havwoods International
“The goal was to create a warm and modern feel for the barn conversion,” says Allan Singh, general manager of Havwoods International. “To achieve this, they wanted to incorporate bespoke looks to complement some of the finishes. Fendi from the Venture Plank collection … has plenty of color variation, which gave the impression that it was custom-built for this project.”
The character-grade planks have a beveled edge and measure 7 ⅛ inches wide and ¾ inch thick. A UV oiled finish provides added durability.
“What made this application special was the fact that the finishes unified to give the overall feel,” says Singh. “The client was exceptionally happy with the durable and tasteful floor.”
