When the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) rolls around, it’s time to prepare for some innovative products to hit the market.

Typically, manufacturers unveil new electronic products to thousands of attendees in Las Vegas. This year was different. Though CES went virtual, companies did not shy away from offering a sneak peek of their most state-of-the-art technology.

As smart home technology continues to expand and reach new heights each year, seeing the latest from CES can show residential pros what the future of home tech might look like. In addition, these showcases and new releases are a good way to see what’s available on the market now.

More homeowners are searching for technology to simplify their lives and to add a touch of customization and control. Houzz’s 2020 Bathroom Trends Survey identified smart technology as one of the top demands from homeowners renovating their bathrooms. The National Kitchen and Bath Association’s kitchen and bathroom design reports also predicts technology to take over this year.

AutoSwing by Autoslide

This touchless, automatic swinging door is for residential use and due to be released February 2021. Designed to automate swing doors, AutoSwing can integrate with smart locks and can be controlled through a smartphone app. Autoslide has already created a system to automate any sliding door as well.

Hydraloop

This CES 2020 Winner of Best of the Best recycles the water used throughout the home. Hydraloop claims to save up to 45% of water use in new homes. This solution is essential in water stressed cities and states, the company says. Recycled water comes from showers, baths, washing machines, hand basins, and air conditioning units. This water is then cleaned, disinfected, and re-used for toilets, washing machines, garden irrigation systems, and even swimming pools.

Not only can a homeowner turn any door into an automatic doggy door, Wayzn also transforms any sliding door into a smart door. Wayzn systems can be voice activated, motion activated, or controlled through an app. The company even says homeowners no longer need to worry about hiring a pet sitter or dog walker. Able to be installed within minutes, the system can also be easily transferred from door to door.

Blue by ADT Smart Home Hub

ADT’s Blue is a hub for all ADT security devices and sensors, so homeowners can have a fully connected smart security system. Homeowners can also decide exactly what types of security devices they would like, such as indoor cameras, doorbell cameras, and window sensors. All devices can be monitored through a mobile app. If power goes out, the system has a 24 hour battery backup. Blue by ADT also connects with Amazon Alexa, Sonos, Google Assistant, Lutron, Nest, and more.

eufy Security Smart Lock Touch&WIFi

This smart lock can be unlocked in four different ways: fingerprint, the eufy app, electronic keyboard, or a key. The company says the smart lock can recognize a fingerprint and unlock in 1.3 seconds. When closed, the smart lock automatically locks so that doors will be secure despite human error. eufy says its smart lock can withstand extreme temperatures and rain. It’s BHMA Grade 2 Security Certification proves the lock has been tested through 250,000 locking cycles.

Whole Home Smart Wi-Fi Water Sensor Kit by D-Link

The D-Link DCH-S1621KT is a water sensor kit that the company says is an essential part of a whole home smart solution for detection of water. It connects to an existing router, without the need for a smart hub. It comes with a built-in hub which allows for communication with up to 16 water sensors that can monitor a homeowner of any leaks, washing equipment failure, and more. It can be monitored through an app and works with Google Assistant.

LG Inverter Heat Pump Water Heater

LG’s Inverter Heat Pump Water Heater features a sleek exterior and that allows it to be installed anywhere in the home. It heats water using condensation heat, which is generated during the process of compressing and circulating refrigerant, the company says. This results in 74% less water being used compared to the average electric water heater. It’s available in 200 and 270 liter capacities with high energy efficiency ratings and a 10-year warranty. LG’s new heat pump will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2021.

Shepherd Lock Gen2

Shepherd Lock’s tagline is “the last home security device you’ll ever need.” Any suspected break-ins or lock tampering is met with an alarm and a deadbolt freeze. Homeowners can monitor these alerts through their mobile app. The app will also allow homeowners to open the lock through a simple touch and look. Once the Bluetooth device is close enough to the lock, homeowners can just touch the deadbolt lock or look at the wall-mounted Shepherd Lock Gen2 for it to open.

Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer Switch, Motion-Activated

Kasa’s soon-to-be-released smart Wi-Fi dimmer works with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and SmartThings. It turns lights on automatically when someone enters a room, but its light detection technology knows when there is sufficient natural light already in the room. Users can dim lights from 100% all the way down to just 1%, and its fading options help for a smooth transition from dark to light or vice versa. 

Moley Robotic Kitchen

Truly one of the most innovative and futuristic products on this list, the Moley robotic kitchen is a dexterous robot that can cook complete meals, monitor ingredients, suggest recipes based on what’s in a kitchen, and even cleans up after itself. The Moley robot requires a specialty range of cookware in order to whip up recipes. Besides the robotic hands, the full Moley kitchen system features cabinets, a fully automated kitchen unit, and appliances.

Aladin Elderly Smart Lamp by Domalys

Domalys’ Aladin lamp offers three features that can help clients age in place. Its first feature is an automatic light that turns on when the homeowner gets up in the middle of the night. The second is the fall detection function; motor sensors will send an alarm to a caregiver or family member on their smartphone. The third feature is a data analysis of the older adult, which can inform family members of any unusual activity. 

Nobi Elderly Smart Lamp

The Nobi smart lamp’s design differs greatly from the Aladin lamp. Nobi is a circular pendant light while Aladin is a slim, wall-mounted light. Nobi will turn on when an aging adult gets out of bed, alerts caregivers, monitors air quality, smoke, and carbon dioxide.

Its green technology is the same used to clean the atmosphere 3 billion years ago, says the company. The purifier does not need any filters due to its BioCAZ Solution, which is a bio solution dissolved in water. It digests pollutants and leaves no residue behind, says the company.
