Appeals court upholds fine against Wisconsin Amish couple for not following building code

A Wisconsin state appeals court said an Amish couple did not prove that their religious beliefs kept them from following a local building code in Eau Claire County.

A Wisconsin state appeals court said an Amish couple did not prove that their religious beliefs kept them from following a local building code in Eau Claire County. The couple contended that the building code requirement for smoke detectors goes against beliefs of the Old Amish Order because of its religious objections to electronic devices.
