Organizations and projects working to help unhoused individuals and families in Lane County, Ore., move into permanent housing will receive $4.1 million in federal funding, including awards from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Continuum of Care program.

The $2.76 billion total in awards allocated across the country are granted to local homeless service and housing programs, including $49.97 million for programs across Oregon, The Register-Guard reports.

The funding is a major factor in the community's "ability to house and improve the quality of life for those who are highly vulnerable and have experienced homelessness for a long time," said Kate Budd, Lane County's interim human services manager.
