Atlanta Urban Infill Project Innovates With Off-Site Methods
Clayton's CrossMod homes in Atlanta show how combining off-site construction with flexible urban zoning policies could move the needle for affordable housing

As the housing shortage persists, home builders such as Clayton, a national builder of single-family attainable housing, are working to provide solutions for attainable housing. Clayton recently partnered with the Georgia Manufactured Housing Association to unveil a new urban infill project in Atlanta that showcases two Clayton Built CrossMod homes—the first of their kind in Atlanta, the Valdosta Daily Times reports.
CrossMod homes are built to HUD code and combine off-site construction with site-built features. These homes have the potential to help increase housing inventory while addressing restrictive urban zoning policies that previously limited the acceptance of housing built off-site.
CrossMod homes are built off-site in home building facilities and finished on-site with a foundation, garage and porches. The city of Atlanta allows off-site built homes within city limits so long as the homes are secured to a permanent foundation. This zoning ordinance is an example of flexible legislation that can increase attainable homeownership opportunities in high-growth cities across the country.
