Urban Policy reporter Emily Badger argues that transportation costs should be included in the golden rule of housing affordability, which is the 30 percent threshold housing should take from income.
“Consider housing and transportation costs in tandem,” Badger writes in The Washington Post. “A $1,000-a-month downtown apartment for example may feel cheaper if it means you don't have to lease a $300-a-month car.”
