About 90% of U.S. homes are under-insulated, NAIMA says

Officials say that because homeowners don’t see insulation, they tend to ignore its importance

The North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) reported that about 90% of U.S. single-family homes are under-insulated. The NAIMA estimate is based on the 2009 Residential Energy Consumption Survey, published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

A NAIMA official said that because homeowners don’t see insulation, they tend to ignore its importance. Insulation has a "three times greater impact on the average home’s energy and comfort than windows or doors," he said.
