The Obama administration’s Social and Behavioral Sciences Team wants to use subtle tactics such as computer pop-ups and government mailings to promote more efficient use of energy.

The ideas is to use behavioral cues, like comparing your energy use with a neighbor to increase participation in energy efficiency and other federal goals such as getting more homeowners to buy flood insurance.
