Florida Senate votes to preserve funds earmarked for affordable housing

Voters in Florida passed a law to dedicate a portion of real estate transaction to preserve nature

Florida’s voters passed an amendment to the state constitution, with 75% of voters in favor, to dedicate a portion of real estate transaction revenues for the Land Acquisition Trust Fund to preserve natural areas and waterways.

With 16% of that revenue already slated to go toward the state’s Housing Trust Fund, lawmakers proposed cutting some of that housing money to increase conservation funds. But housing activists rallied to restore the full allocation, and the state senate voted to do just that.
