Some homes under construction in Moore, Okla., not up to tornado code

Moore, Okla., this year became the first city in the nation to adopt a tornado-specific building code. City officials wanted all homes to be able to withstand an EF-2 or EF-3 tornado. But not all new homes being built today—six months after the code adoption—in the tornado’s path will have these upgrades. Some were permitted before the code went into effect, and are exempt. If these homes are not up to the new code, some homeowners worry they could severely damage homes that are built to the new standards in a tornado.
