The design load of roofs in Aspen, Colo., may provide information about the likelihood of a structure to cave in from snow and alert residents to consult an engineer. Roofs installed after March 1965 were designed with a load of 75 pounds per square foot, as compared to those built before that year, which may be built to carry only 45 to 60 pounds per square foot.
