Phius, a nonprofit organization with a focus on high-performance passive building, has launched a new trainign program for construction professionals looking to improve their skills in passive building design. The program, called Phius Certified Trades Professional - Enclosure Specialist Training, is designed to expand upon participants' basic carpentry skills, covering various building techniques.
The training includes online self-paced modules starting Feb. 11, followed by in-person instruction from March 11-13 at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. Registration for the program closes on Feb. 11, but a second session is planned for late 2025.
The program covers an array of building science topics, including passive building principles, water management, and indoor air quality. The in-person portion involves hands-on training, where participants build a sample pod to apply their learning on a smaller scale. During the in-person portion, participants will also study water, vapor, air, and thermal control layers, as well as material selection and window installation techniques.
"In the ever-evolving landscape of construction, the Phius Trades Training program represents an investment in our sustainable future," said Katrin Klingenberg, Co-Executive Director of Phius. "By equipping professionals with advanced building science skills, we're shaping the next generation of high-performance, energy-efficient buildings." Learn more
