Oregon home builder Jason Adams has used data to make his business more efficient and competitive.

Adams, CEO of Bend, Ore.-based Arbor Builders, found that in a housing industry that is increasingly expensive it is more important than ever to cut unnecessary costs and wasted time. According to Forbes, he created a three-step process for his own company, and now runs Build Intelligence to help others do the same.

First, Adams advocates for centralizing information. This means finding one system that can handle tasks accounting, purchasing, scheduling, sales, and more, so that all important information is in one place and easy to access. The second step is to streamline the permit process so construction starts happen on time. Finally, Adams says to put all the new-found information in one place, so that the whole team can check on up-to-date project statuses.
