New Home Trends Institute’s May Insights Report Reveals Growth in For-Rent Housing
The May Survey Insights report from the New Home Trends Institute reveals that some COVID-era design trends and household preferences may be here to stay, especially as they are adapted to serve a growing consumer base in the rental market. Outdoor amenities are expected to accelerate, and master plans that included trails profited the most in February and March. Backyards are a favored asset in dense communities, and spacious single-family homes with large kitchens and gathering areas also won over multigenerational buyers.
Nearly half of the 79 master plans included in the report are planning for a build-for-rent section as a growing number of priced-out buyers are forced to retreat into the rental market while postponing their purchasing plans.
Insights from our February/March 2022 surveys of 79 master plans around the country and 1,199 homeowners with household incomes of $50,000+:
1. Trails provide the biggest bang for your buck
2. Outdoor amenities will continue to accelerate
3. Mainstay amenities are getting a second look
4. Nearly half of all master plans are planning for a build-for-rent section
