Iowa's 13th Women Build home project was recently completed by the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity (IVHFH), which works to provide affordable housing solutions in the state's Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, and Washington counties. The new home, built by a team of volunteers for a single mother and her two children, began construction in April, the Corridor Business Journal reports.

On Dec. 16, IVHFH officials held a dedication ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Women Build home, which is named in honor of Mary Mascher, an Iowa State Representative for 14 terms who taught in the Iowa City Community School District for 33 years.

Tami Bonnett, the Director of IVHFH, shared her thoughts about this year's Women Build home project in a press release sent out on Friday.

“We hosted our first Women Build in 2005," said Bonnett. "Since then, it has become a tradition for IVHFH to name each Women Build in honor of an influential woman in the community. Mary has supported our mission for decades, especially our Women Build program and joins volunteers on home build sites every construction season. She has been an advocate for improving the lives of families and children through affordable, safe housing. We are thrilled for Mary to join a group of women in the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity community who have been honored for their achievements, their leadership, and their service to our neighbors.”
