The City of Angels is already the most dense in the United States – yes, beating New York City. So is building on the urban fringe a good idea?

According to principal of consulting firm Demographia, Wendell Cox, increasing development farther away from the urban core is a good idea. But Dowell Myers, professor at the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California, says that L.A.’s affordable housing issues stem from a lack of apartments in the city, and building on the fringe doesn’t solve its long-term problems.
