St. Louis' population of those aged 65 years and older is 15 percent, the eighth-highest in the U.S. By 2045, it will be 25 percent, and the region is already preparing with a boom in construction of assisted living and senior care facilities.

Dennis DeSantis, a broker with Colliers International's St. Louis office said to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “That’s a lot of units they’ve put in our market pretty quickly."

“We’ve got so many people lined up waiting to move in we thought now was a good time to use our strength financially and in the marketplace to make more room for more people,” said Terry Walsh, president and CEO of FV Services Inc., adding, “we’ve already pre-sold 70 to 75 percent of the units we haven’t started building yet.”
