Michigan High School Students Complete Fourth Single-Family Build

A group of 43 students from Monroe High School in Monroe County, Mich., completed a 2,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom house as part of the school's annual Trojan Build project, which launched in 2018. This year's project, Trojan Build 4, is fully equipped with laundry facilities and smart technology integrated into the home's lighting, thermostat, garage door, doorbell, and front door lock, The Monroe News reports.

Trojan Build 4 was appraised at $330,000 and was listed on the market on June 13. According to Tom Bell, Monroe High School's construction trades instructor, eight showings have already been scheduled.

“They learn what it’s like to be on a real construction site where subcontractors may also be there or an inspector on a certain day,” Bell said. “They learn a lot of hard skills. They fine tune working with saws. They're learning how to roof and put on shingles. They are putting the scaffolding up and putting up siding. The students work on framing, siding, roofing, windows and doors. Then, they will work with our subcontractors with the HVAC, plumbing and electric.”
