The Most Popular Green Home Features

A recent homebuyer study from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) found that Energy Star-rated windows are the most desired green building feature.

Eighty-nine percent of the surveyed recent and prospective buyers rated listed Energy Star-rated windows as an “Essential/Must Have” or “Desirable” green feature. Following windows were Energy Star-rated appliances (86 percent of homebuyers need or desire these) and an Energy Star rating for the whole home (81 percent).

Most other top-rated green features focused on energy efficiency, including efficient lighting (77 percent), triple-pane insulating glass windows (77 percent), and insulation higher than what’s required by code (73 percent).
