Brooklyn, N.Y.-based designer Aimee Wilder has debuted her first tile collection inspired by the motion of waves.
Wilder has channeled her electric, colorful design aesthetic into the handmade, modular tile collection, Apogee. The collection features four designs in a wide array of shapes, colors, and materials, which can be mixed and matched to create a unique layout.

Mamba tiles
Known for her wallpaper offerings, Wilder carved a name for herself with her playful designs, which are evident in the Apogee collection and its four patterns: Wavey, Timewave, Moon Phase, and Mamba, which are offered in cement, ceramic, and terrazzo.
“My desire to try new things with the Aimée Wilder brand has led me to introduce this new material following a two year development process,” says Wilder. “Apogee is an exploration of my patterns that has pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone. Normally, I work at a larger scale in terms of pattern repeats, and the modularity of tile opens up a new world of possibilities.”

Moon Phases tiles
“Apogee” is defined as the point in orbit of the moon or a satellite at which it is furthest from the earth. All tile designs in this collection feature curved, waved designs ranging from black and white colorways to purples, oranges, and pinks, inspired by the ocean’s waves and its connection to the orbiting moon.
There are also solid options available in each color and in different shapes to offer a seemingly endless range of modular layouts.
Apogee tiles can be installed on interior floors and walls, including showers. Once correctly sealed, the tiles can be cleaned easily. If installed properly, the tiles can even be used outdoors, the company says.
A Mamba is a venomous snake measuring to 14 feet long, and Wilder’s Mamba pattern is a take on snake-like twists, turns, and curves. Mamba comes in five different colorways: Mango Swan, Ebony Swan, Azure Swan, or Suede Tan.

Timewave
This pattern comes in an encaustic cement tile. The porous cement requires a sealer and for high-traffic areas, an additional sealant.
The Moon Phase design comes in different variants for each moon phase, such as waning, sliver, half, and full moons. In addition, there are color variants for each moon phase, and three colorways: Capricorn, Celestial, and Enchanted.
Moon Phase comes in a hexagon cement tile with solid black, white, gray, and tans or its terrazzo counterpart, which features pinks, greens, and blues.
Timewave features muted blues, greens, oranges, pinks, grays, and whites in rectangular cement tiles. Timewave offers the most robust selection with 18 different colors available.

Wavey tiles
This pattern also has a terrazzo counterpart, which features a wider range of speckled tiles.
Wavey offers square tiles in matching colors to other Apogee designs. The terrazzo tiles not only come in Timewave and Moon Phase variants, but other geometric patterns, such as Split Square and Split Rectangle.
All colors and tile shapes are available in solid colors. Custom large sizes are available through special requests. These tiles are all made to order and require a six- to 16-week lead time. Terrazzo tiles require a 12- to 24-week lead time.
