Survey data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) shows that single women made 18 percent of all home purchases last year, compared to single men, who accounted for only 7 percent.
This makes women the second largest segment of homebuyers, behind married couples. The Chicago Tribune reports that women also spend more on homes than men, $185,000 compared to $175,000 on average, according to the NAR.
One explanation for the phenomenon is that women tend to see buying property as an investment, while men remain more concerned about having to relocate for a job.
