Warmup Has Late Snows Covered with Its New Smart Outdoor Controller for Heated Surfaces
Spring may be just around the corner, but Warmup has homeowners covered for late snows with the debut of its new predictive smart controller for snow melting systems.
“The Warmup WSM-252W is specifically designed for residential and light commercial snow melting applications,” the floor heating company says. “Driveway, walkways, loading docks and store entrances are some of the common places where the device provides the safety and convenience of automatic snow melting.”

With new Wi-Fi compatibility, the smart controller allows users to monitor snow heaters from their mobile device through the Warmup WSM app. Whereas external sensors must first detect physical snow to switch on, the device can anticipate snowfall by checking weather reports. At least two hours before the the first flurries begin to fall, the system switches on to heat the driveway slab to up to 45 degrees Fahrenheit before the snow hits. If a home’s WiFi goes out, users are not out of luck: They can also use the built-in timer or manual activation to run the system.

Through location services, the app knows a user’s location and updates every few minutes with weather data. It pulls information on the temperature and chance of precipitation so that it does not miss a change in the forecast--which, much to the local weather reporter’s annoyance, can happen on a dime. Through the app, the controller notifies users when it turns on. If users want to overwrite or cancel the activation because they are on vacation or simply do not want the system to run, they can through the app.
With the weather prediction feature, the company says the device can operate without external sensors, which reduces the wattage and amperage needed to run a driveway warmer. In turn, this can lower the cost of running the heating system.
In the app, users can customize the experience by setting parameters such as what temperature and precipitation percentage will trigger the warmer to turn on and off, if it will automatically shut off after 24 hours, and how far ahead of the forecasted snow a user wants the setup to activate. They can also set multiple schedules and check the weather on the app.

“The device is compatible with most existing heating systems already poured and can be purchased to upgrade an existing installation,” the company says. “It is built with up to 252 Amps of load switching at 100/600 volts. This is equivalent to about 1,000 square feet of snow melting area.”
The new controller launched after two years of testing, and its app is currently available for both IOS and Android devices. Warmup also offers three other control devices for small and large square-footage with external controls as well as a collection of snow melting products, including driveway, pipe, sidewalk, and roof heaters.
