8 Surfacing Trends to Expect in 2025 and Beyond

From neutral, minimal surfaces to barely-there patterns, homebuyers want surfaces that will stand the test of time

Design trends are always evolving, which can be a challenge for homeowners when it comes to expensive or difficult-to-update areas, such as home surfaces. According to remodeling and home design platform Houzz, one of the biggest focuses in surface design is choosing neutral materials that age gracefully over time. To get a sense of where surface trends are headed throughout the remainder of the year, Houzz spoke with experts at the 2025 Surface Design Show and found that neutral tones, subtle patterns, and durable surfaces designed for long-term appeal will be the norm in 2025.

Many of the minimal surfaces that were so popular over the past decade have been replaced by patterned surfaces at recent design events. And at this year’s Surface Design Show, many brands were embracing pattern in an almost ethereal way. Booths showcased wood panels, stone flooring and textiles with subtle, faded patterns that emerged from the material. Read more
