To afford a home in San Jose, the average Millennial would need to earn $80,162 more than his or her current salary.
San Jose is on top of the list of cities where Millennials earning the average salary can’t afford to buy a home. Next in line are San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Sacramento, making up a top five of exclusively Californian cities.
The numbers come from Bloomberg’s analysis of data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Zillow, and Bankrate.
So what markets can Millennials afford? The bottom five on the list are Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Indianapolis, and Cleveland.
