Custom Home Construction Expanded in 2014

According to an NAHB analysis of the most recent Census Bureau Survey of Construction, custom home building expanded in most regions of the U.S. in 2014.

The New England and East North Central divisions posted the highest custom home market shares – around 43 percent, up from 37 and 39 percent respectively in 2013, the NAHB reports.

The Mountain region registered the lowest share in the nation, remaining stable under 16 percent, the only region to not post a share increase.

Contractor-built and owner-built houses that are built for owner occupancy on the owner’s land are the main focus of the survey.
