Once a novel experiment, age-restricted communities comprise a large segment of the housing market. CityLab reports that builders, like retirement community real estate developer Del Webb, are altering the plans of their “active adult” communities for the influx of Baby Boomers that are coming their way.
Today’s retirement homebuyers are different than the older generations of yesteryear. They now want to live near cities because they plan on continuing to work in some capacity. And, they like being near family and having space for all their stuff.
Golf is still popular, but the sport has suffered a dip in popularity and soon won’t be synonymous with retirees. Active adults prefer walking trails, biking, and indoor exercise classes, but still like having a golf course nearby.
