L.A. Builders Build Small as Solution to Local Housing Shortage Crisis

Developer LocalConstruct combined the lots of six dilapidated houses to build a cluster of 18 single-family houses, Realtor.com reports.

“Think of it as the incredible shrinking subdivision,” the article says. Realtor.com dubs building “single-family houses on little parcels of vacant, overlooked land in existing neighborhoods” as a big fix to Los Angeles’ housing shortage problem.

Mayor Eric Garcetti has a goal to add 100,000 more houses by 2021, and some groups have challenged him to make sure affordable housing is included in the mix.
