White kitchens drenched in sunlight have long reigned on the pages of shelter magazines and the Pinterest pinboards of homeowners and design enthusiasts, but there are ways to make the use of black not seem claustrophobic and work well in a workspace.
Interior designer James Dawson paired a kitchen of stained black wood-veneer cabinets with a geometric black-and-white pattern on the ceiling, while designers at the Swedish firm Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects paired a black kitchen with bright wood furniture.
