Traditional wine racks with bottles stored side by side serve their practical purpose in maximizing storage density, but that storage option is purely utilitarian. Wine storage can be so much more. Thoughtfully designed wine storage can be used as an artful design element in the home, according to the Housing Design Matters blog. It’s not just about storage, but about artfully displaying wine to add character to a space.
There are many opportunities for designers to creatively display wine, whether it's as a feature on the wall over a set of cabinets, in a case under the stairs, or just off the kitchen in an enclosed glass alcove.
Perhaps you’ve seen the cabinets with a lattice pattern in place of upper cabinets with wine glasses hanging below. You immediately recognize it as wine storage. Very decorative, but without the density and you still have to remove each bottle of wine to see it is. This is great for a model home when you don’t want to invest in a lot of wine but not as great for displaying the wine.
That’s where a label forward method of wine storage excels. Afterall, the labels on many bottles of wine are art gallery worthy. It is also easier to recognize and locate the wine you may be looking for. From a design perspective, label forward display has transformed wine storage to an interior design feature.
