SYMBI Home Update: A Virtual Rendering Brings Our Demonstration Project to Life
Now that the PRODUCTS high-performance demonstration home is in full swing, it’s a good time to step back and get a full picture of the builders’ vision for the two homes.
"Using Lumion 3D rendering software, designers Daniel Santaella and Paula Hernandez have perfectly captured the essence of Symbi Homes,” says Symbi CEO Nicole Tysvaer. “I am thrilled that we can preview the project through this lens."
Located just outside Washington in Mount Rainier, Md., Symbi Duplex One assumes an architecture that can be loosely described as modern farmhouse, offering white-painted fiber cement exteriors, wood accents, and black-framed fiberglass windows.

The side‐by‐side, two‐family dwelling includes 2,260 square feet of above ground heated living space, plus 950 square feet of finished basement that ca be used as an in‐law suite with separate entrance. Each home has five bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a universally designed first floor guest suite, and two off‐street parking per unit.
Like the outside, the home’s interiors are bright and airy, with ample west-facing windows, large sliding glass doors facing the back, and high ceilings.
The 3D presentation is a good way for the developers to confirm their product and material decisions, but it’s also give perspective buyers an idea of what it will feel like to live in a Symbi home.

"As a marketing tool, the 3D video is absolutely essential,” says Tysvaer. “Symbi Duplex One will be listed for sale prior to completion, and the video provides us the opportunity to not only show visuals of the finished product, but also give homebuyers a sense of what it will feel like to live in this gorgeous space and learn about all of the unique sustainable features of a Symbi home."
A startup founded by Tysvaer and Matt Kulp, Symbi Homes aims to reinvent single-family home design and construction with an emphasis on wellness, energy-efficiency, and technology. Tysvaer says key features of the SYMBI duplex, and in fact all future SYMBI homes, will include air and water filtration, a highly insulated pre-fabricated shell, and ongoing home performance monitoring. The partners of Symbi Homes say several indicators point to the increasing demand for energy efficiency among homebuyers, so the company is launching a three‐year pilot program to complete 14 single‐family and six duplex homes targeting sustainable inner‐suburb redevelopment in the Washington metro area.
