Interior design trends are malleable, inconstant, and created to motivate homeowners to spend more money, says Shay Holland, interior designer and star of HGTV’s Unfinished Business. Rather than dishing out a never-ending stream of money to keep up with the latest and greatest, Holland encourages homeowners to play with new trends rather than allowing them to consume the entirety of their homes.
The 2023 maximalism renaissance is out, but so too is untextured and colorless minimalism, Forbes reports. Instead, creamier neutrals, mixed wood tones, bolder wallpapers, and vintage furniture pieces are growing in popularity as homeowners add character to their living spaces while maintaining comfort and practicality.
Monochromatic neutral color schemes such as white and gray have been in style for a long time, but [Audrey] Scheck believes this era has come to an end. “The trend of utilizing white or gray as a way to make a space feel airy and open is shifting as more designers are incorporating creamier neutrals into spaces,” she explains. “Layers and textures are being used to warm spaces up and make them feel more inviting as people are gravitating away from whites.”
